Myths and Riffs of Leadership

Tuesday 22nd March 18:00 - 20:00

Join us for an informal, thought provoking evening exploring leadership ideas from academia and rock music.

Dennis Tourish- Professor of Leadership at the University of Kent, a Fellow of the Leadership Trust Foundation and an Associate Editor of the journal 'Leadership.'

He has written extensively on leadership and communication and has identified the key traits of good leaders and the mistakes of bad lead-ers. As a frequent speaker at professional conferences, Dennis also thinks that academics take themselves and their subjects too seriously, so he uses comedy to ridicule the idiotic antics of the human species, while gently pointing out how we can all do better. His philosophy is that the more you laugh the more you can learn, and he will be putting this into practice while Peter and John warm up for some music.

Peter Cook- business academic and author of three books on leadership, innovation and creativity.

His books ‘Best Practice Creativity’ and ‘Sex, Leadership and Rock’n’Roll’ have been acclaimed by Professor Charles Handy and Tom Peters, world leaders in business. Peter’s background is as a chemist in the global pharmaceutical industry. For the past 17 years he has run Human Dynamics and The Academy of Rock – offering bespoke business consultancy and public speaking. Peter is an MBA tutor and an accomplished musician.

He will be accompanied by John Howitt, a professional musician who performs with Celine Dion, Anastasia and Shirley Bassey. There may be an opportunity for you to get involved with some ‘spontaneous combustion’ through the live music performance.

There will be drinks and canapés, so please reserve your free place by

email   enterprise@kent.ac.uk or phone 01227 827376.
